How to Install Viber on Windows, Activate It, and Fix Messages or Calls

Confirm your number in the phone app, install the matching Windows build, scan the QR code, then send a message and place a call. A 32-bit PC needs its own download.

Viber on Windows is a desktop session tied to a phone number you already confirmed in the Viber app on a phone. The PC does not replace that account. This guide installs the phone app, confirms the number, installs the Windows build that matches the PC, scans the QR code, waits for sync, sends a message, and places a call. The catalog page is Viber. Softcoria does not host the installer.

Viber states that a phone is required. The download page is the place to get the phone app and the Windows build. Do not treat a catalog listing as the setup file.

Which Windows download to take

The current desktop build targets 64-bit Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows 11 on ARM. Separate downloads exist for 32-bit Windows and for Windows 8. Those are not the current build. Viber’s supported platforms article lists Windows 10 64-bit version 1607 and newer, and Windows 11. A Windows 10 PC older than version 1607 is outside that line.

It is outside the supported 1607-and-newer line

Read the system type before you download. Open Settings, then System, then About. System type tells you whether Windows itself is 64-bit, 32-bit, or ARM. Version tells you whether Windows 10 is 1607 or newer. If those labels are unfamiliar, read x64 vs x86 vs ARM64 Windows and then return to Viber’s download page. A 32-bit PC that runs the 64-bit installer does not become a 64-bit PC. It gets the wrong file.

Confirm the number on the phone first

Install Viber on the phone from the store Viber links, or from the download page above. Open it and enter the phone number you will use. The activation code arrives on that phone, by SMS or by a call. Type the code in the phone app. That code is not a Windows password and it is not something you type into the desktop window later. When the phone app finishes confirmation, the number is the Viber account. Leave the phone on and online. A phone in airplane mode cannot carry the next step.

If the code never arrives, stay on the phone. Check the number you typed, ask the phone to send the code again, and do not move on to the PC until the phone app shows you as signed in. Installing Windows Viber first does not confirm a number. There is nothing for the QR code to attach to until the phone account exists.

Install the Windows build and scan the QR code

On the PC, download the matching build from viber.com. Read How to Safely Download and Install Software on Windows before you run it: the file should come from Viber, not from a page that only uses the name. Softcoria’s page describes the app. It does not store the installer. Run the setup and open Viber.

The desktop window shows a QR code. On the phone that already has the confirmed account, scan that code the way Viber’s desktop setup article describes. You are linking this Windows session to the phone account. You are not creating a second number. When the scan succeeds, Viber syncs. Chats that belong to the account start to appear in the Windows window. Give that sync time on a slow network. An empty list in the first seconds is not proof the link failed.

If you close the desktop app during the first sync, open it again. The phone should still be online. A finished link means you can see conversations you already had on the phone, not a blank window that asks you to confirm the number a second time with an SMS code.

Send a message and place a call

Open a chat with a contact that already exists on the phone. Type a short message and send it. The message should show in the desktop chat and, after sync, on the phone. That pair is the check that the Windows session can send, not only display history. If the message stays on the PC and never shows on the phone, the phone was likely offline or the QR link did not finish. Turn the phone’s connection back on, open Viber there, and let sync run again.

Place a call from the desktop window to a contact who can answer. A call needs a microphone on the PC and a working network. If Windows asks whether Viber may use the microphone, allow it. You can also check Settings, Privacy, Microphone, and allow desktop apps. Speakers or a headset are how you hear the other person. The phone account remains the identity on the call. The desktop app does not become a second phone line.

Some chat features from the phone are missing on the desktop app. This guide does not name those missing features, because the set is Viber’s to list and it changes. If a control you rely on is not in the Windows window, do that task on the phone. Do not hunt for a hidden desktop switch that this page never promised.

When the QR code, messages, or calls fail

The QR code never appears

Start with the account, not with a reinstall. The phone app must be installed, the number must already be confirmed, and the phone must be online with Viber open. Then look at the network in front of the PC. Viber’s desktop ports article lists these ports for the desktop app, both TCP and UDP: 80, 443, 4244, 5242, 5243, and 7985. A firewall, a filtered office network, or a security tool that blocks those ports can stop the desktop app before it draws the QR code. Opening ports on a PC you administer is a firewall change, not a Viber setting. On a network someone else runs, ask the administrator rather than punching holes at random. After the path is open, quit Viber on Windows and open it again so it can request the code.

The phone is offline

Desktop Viber does not keep a free-standing account. If the phone is off, in airplane mode, or cannot reach the network, activation and sync fail. Turn the phone on, open the Viber app, and confirm it shows your chats. Then return to the PC and scan again if the QR code is still waiting, or wait for sync if the link already happened. A message you send from Windows should show on the phone once that phone is online. If it does not, the session is not linked yet. Do not type the old SMS activation code into Windows to “finish” the link. That code was for the phone app.

A 32-bit PC downloaded the 64-bit build

The current installer is the wrong file for a 32-bit operating system. Settings, System, About, System type will say 32-bit operating system. Uninstall the 64-bit attempt if Windows managed to start setup, then download the separate 32-bit build from Viber’s download page. Do not keep retrying the current 64-bit file. Windows 11 on ARM is a different case: the current build targets that PC, so an ARM laptop should not be forced onto the old 32-bit download. Windows 8 is a third case, with its own download, and it is not the supported set of Windows 10 64-bit version 1607 or newer and Windows 11.

After the right build is installed and the QR scan has synced, send one more test message and place one short call. Those two checks cover the desktop session. Anything the window does not offer belongs on the phone, not in a second installer.

FAQ

Can I use Viber on Windows without a phone number?

No. Viber requires a phone account. Install the phone app, confirm the number there, and only then link the Windows app with the QR code. The PC does not create a separate Viber identity.

Where do I type the activation code?

In the phone app. The code that arrives by SMS or call is how you confirm the number on the phone. You do not type that code into the Windows window. The desktop app links by QR after the number is already confirmed.

The QR code never appears. What should I check?

Confirm the phone app is installed and the number is already confirmed, and that the phone is online. If the code still never appears, a network may be blocking Viber. Viber documents TCP and UDP ports 80, 443, 4244, 5242, 5243, and 7985 for the desktop app.

I have a 32-bit PC and the app will not run. What happened?

The current build targets 64-bit Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows 11 on ARM. A 32-bit PC needs the separate 32-bit download. Windows 8 also has its own download and is outside the supported line of Windows 10 64-bit version 1607 or newer, and Windows 11.

Messages work, but calls do not. What do calls need?

A working microphone and a network on the PC. Allow desktop apps to use the microphone in Windows privacy settings if the call connects with no sound. The phone account still has to be online enough for the desktop session to stay linked.

Are all phone chat features on the desktop app?

No. Some chat features are missing on desktop. This guide does not name them. If a control you use on the phone is absent in the Windows window, use the phone for that task.
